AdSense is a Google product that can earn you money by placing ads on your blog. Usually the ads pertain to your blog, and in our case, WoW. I know that ads aren't our favorite things, but why not make money off people clicking on them? Especially if you blog gets a lot of visitors.

I sound like I'm marketing something, but I'm really not xD -- Just thought it might be a good idea to let others know about it.

I have it on my blog, and it actually goes with my layout. Currently it's an ad about buying WoW gold, which annoys me (and I'm sure it annoys most of us too), but hey, some people buy into it.

I'm not out for Google to make money, I'm out for YOU to make money! Really, I swear. ^_^

I use google adsense just because it was simple to set up and the like. The CTR isn't all that, but then again neither are the ads as I am filtering out some of the more profitable subjects.

Considering looking into an affiliate route though, may prove more profitable.

I'm mostly into the hunt for profit to cover the hosting costs though, it all mounts up

I won't use Google adds because it advertises for wow gold, which I'm really against & won't support.

I'd be all for it if I could do it without advertising for gold sellers & power leveling services.

There are other options for adds that we've discussed before on BA that don't advertise for gold selling stuff.

That is the reason I looked down the amazon affiliate route Lissanna, however I have not been happy with the conversions through that. I have had 1 conversion, and that user never had the item delivered = no money for me. I just don't really trust it I guess, so have reverted back to adsense for now for all regions.

Yeah. I can understand that. I gave up trying to find adds I was happy with, so I just don't have any, but it's really a personal choice.

Are you not supposed to be able to exclude ads that you dont want, ie gold links and the like?

You can exclude them, but the sheer multitude of URLs that gold-selling and power-leveling companies own is impossible to filter entirely. I just unchecked the box to filter Adsense for video game items, so instead it displays some random ads from other categories.

Anyway so I'm looking into the idea of blogging after floating around the IT industry for the past decade and I'm having trouble finding concrete info as to whether or not Blogs make money. Now obviously it's like anything else.. the more time you put into it the more returns you get. But with Google AdWords/Sense... is the potential really there to start getting checks from them?

There's potential in everything, so to answer your question yes you can make money from blogging. If you're only in it for the money though, I think you're blogging for the wrong reason. It takes a LOT of time, dedication, and work to build up and maintain a successful blog with a larger reader base. If you're throwing that away purely to get clicks on annoying ad banners...well, you might as well just have a blank page saying "I don't care what I write, I just want you to click this banner to give me money."

Just thought I would mention a little added bonus from using Google Adsense you may not have thoguht about. I use adsense just as a small thing I stick into all my websites and dont really pay much attention to it. However, as an adsense member Google mails me (IRL mail that is) regular invitations to try out google adwords with free £50 vouchers to do so. So if you ever wnated ot try directing traffic to your website through adwords you can do so free at googles expense. Just sign up to adsense and wait for your freebies. The only drawback is that you need a credit card to have an adwords account. they verify the card first so since i dont have one i cant use my vouchers but they dont take any money from your card while you are using the voucher and you can just cancel it when the voucher is used up.

You can exclude with adsense and it's pretty effective, i dont get many gold selling ads now, although it has taken me a while.

If you really dont want to take any risks then I recommend you use Clickbank. They have a few top converting guides for sale and you can pick and choose which banners and ads fit into your site.

You can also use something called section targeting and add it into your blogs template, basically helping you to target relevant keywords.

Just be transparent, dont try to hide anything, people know its an affiliate scheme so be up front about it. Your not going to get rich but i make about $100 a month from http://www.crusaderscoliseum.com and thats about $60 clickbank and $40 adsense.

Pays my hosting fee's, my wow subscription and vent server and grabs me a takeaway and a beer to eat/drink while writing more stuff.

I know it's more guides than blog atm but I'm going to try and personalise it a bit more in the next month or two, I'm just a bit of a noob at the whole blogging thing.

Thanks for the links, I just added google ads last month because the original blog i had with blogspot was disabled and i moved to wordpress seems like the email address was not active and they disable my google ads, knowing that i can actually block the gold sellers, i totally support 100% on nogold.org so i put all the list blocked now. Thanks again!

I do have AdSense on my blog and now it has finally began to show ads that are somewhat related to the blog's content. First it would advertise christian singles, coffee and viagra. Now I see occasional browser games and such. The best I'll get will probably be gold-selling ads or something. :)

i tried adsense but you need a LOT of visitors to make some money,
