Buff'd and How to Get Involved

Everyone knows how hard it can be sometimes to find great posts, especially by bloggers you may not know about. Well, a fellow gamer and WoW lover had created a site that will help promote posts you and/or others have found. It it called Buff'd and they have reached out to the BA community in an effort to get as many involved as possible. Bloggers have a special page just recently created to help with including Buff'd to your site.

What is Buff'd:

Buff'd is just like Digg.com but for WoW. Player's submit relevant stories (we call them "Tells") and the community either votes positively (buffs) or negatively (nerfs) the stories. After a certain number of buffs, the story is promoted to the front page for the most exposure.

We do not create content. We highlight content and make it easier to find. We also do not steal content or bandwidth. We simply link to the story so that people go to the blogger's site to see the story and any monetization strategy they may have. We are not gold farmers, spammers or hackers. We're just players that want to help the community by bring the best WoW stories to the attention of everyone.

We often get asked, "What's the point?" "Why are you necessary?" It's a fair question that we try to be honest with.

If you are happy going to one site (e.g., WoW.com) for all your WoW news and information, then Buff'd is probably not for you. Please stop by when you get a chance or on Tuesday maintenance days for some interesting stories that you won't find on WoW.com. We wish you well and happy gaming.

If you're the type of person (like us) that has many feeds in their RSS reader and you find yourself check three, four or more sites in order to keep up with the latest on WoW news, then we think we have a pretty good value proposition for you. By giving players who also feel this way they power to submit stories they find on the web and voting on stories submitted by others, we are creating a community-powered news editing system. It's expansive as it captures the popular WoW.com story but also the post from the newest and most unheard of blogger. It's democratic because that new blogger's story may end up getting more positive votes (buffs) than the WoW.com story. It will graduate to the front page where the community will easily see it thereby generating needed exposure for the blogger and great information for the community. The player's are the editors not AOL employees.

Please just go to http://buffd.net to sign up and start participating. Adding a Buff It button to their posts will increase the buffs it will get and thereby generate more exposure.

Additionally, we will soon be launching our Buff'd Blogger program where we will interview a blogger and feature the story on the main page of the site. We would love to work with BA bloggers for this.

This seems to be a great way for all of us to find new sites and great posts relevant to the game we love.

I've been buffing my posts (at least the non-ranty ones) and generating some decent traffic from it. I like the site and recommend people give it a shot.

Just a tip for Blogger and Blogspot users on how to add the button to their sidebar or footer as a widget (instead if in an individual post). Copy/paste the quoted section into a Javascript widget.

Been Buffing my posts for along time ( well aslong as i have had my little blog

)

generates great traffic and is so well laid out I also use it to gather information for my podcast

but I think the best thing about them is their willingness to sponsor other great podcast

i have many times tweeted how well they are doing

Yeah the Buff'd website has been down along with their blog for a week or so now. It's really annoying - such a great service and I can't use it now

I think it is still in existence, but, after being bought by a different company, they did a redesign that took quite a while. During that time they were down a lot and stuff just didn't work half the time. I have been back since and while things seem to be working better, have not been interested in continuing to use the service.

There are a few people who are though. Also, the site has been overrun by spam comments, so be wary of any of the comments there.

I've been following this and considering getting involved, but it seems the domain isn't working at the moment. Any news?

I believe they are no longer operational. The original owner sold the site to a third party and things seemed to go down the tubes from there. Pretty sure they are Kaput.

Well the domain has expired and is now awaiting renewal so... looks like i missed this one.

Don't worry to much about it we are trying to pick up where buff'd left off.

Right now it is still in a very early stage and we have it shut off due to having to switch service providers simply because Horde Review has become a very heavy site over time and gets to much traffic for bluehost to really serve as a good service provider for us anymore. Once we get the migration done after today though it should go live again.

It is still in infancy and at this stage you are only able to bookmark pages to the site. Over the next few weeks I will be working towards setting it so the pages you bookmark wills how up in your profile on the site so it is more like a real bookmarking feature that you will be able to manage. As of right now though it is a great back link fo ryou guys and if you use it we hope to basically create a dedicated searchable WoW directory with it. Including nothing but the wow blogging community.
