So, what do we think about the changes to WoWInsider? ( Wow.com ).. We are planning on discussing it in the show this week, and I'd love to get your feed back to include!

Darker colors = way better IMO.

Then again, the content is probably going to continue to be as bad as it always has been, so it'll still be very hit or miss (with lots of misses).

Seems like it's trying to branch out into being a Facebook-type thing for WoW, which doesn't appeal to me at all. I read most of the stuff off my Google Reader so the site re-design isn't a big deal, though it does seem laggier/slower loading now.

I agree with Rilgon that so much of the content (especially the "levelling guides" which are especially terrible) is bad/not even spellchecked most of the time. I wish they'd also get their class-specific writers to know what they're talking about instead of randomly making things up all the time.

I cringe anytime I see a post entitled "Totem Talk" or even "Shaman" in general. So much of it is laughable/inaccurate it's not funny (and I don't think they understand enough about any spec to make valid comments on them). Mind you, the alternative would be to find people that did actually know what they're talking about, which isn't the easiest thing in the world

In terms of the site though, I'd be tempted to use the new login stuff if it wasn't tied in to AOL, partially because some ass has taken the name "Binkenstein" already :(

I think it's inspired.

The main challenge that a lot of websites face these days is how to drive traffic to their actual website. Feed readers mean that a lot of people are reading content in its non-native form, bypassing any layout, formatting, and adverts on the original site.

If WoW.com can create a community that people return to again and again they'll overcome that issue. They'll create a strong community that visits their website regularly. I like the idea of tracking my actions within the game on a dedicated WoW social networking site.

I haven't tested the addon yet, due to there being no EU characters on the site yet, but I'm looking forward to being able to make quick notes mid-game.

It won't replace my own personal blog, but gives me another means of promoting my blog posts. I excited to see how they build on their initial offering, and what new features will come in the future.

Hugs,
Tiniane.

I'm probably just a grumpy old lady who doesn't understand the modern media landscape. But I really can't see the charm of the tracking device. I wrote a rant about it last week.

Regarding what is posted by the addon/client and the ability to reduce it. There are checkbox 'areas of interest' in the in-game interface>addon options. You can disable what you don't want to appear. I haven't really shut anything off at the moment as I'm just trial running it to see if it's worth it.

So far the only problem I have is the speed of the wowinsider client is just too slow for me. The time it takes to process and upload is more than 5 minutes, which for a client is bad when you consider most attention spans hate stuff that just seems to sit there idling.

Overall, I think their redesign and new domain name will help them a lot.
