I see we have a few WoW Insider bloggers here, and I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on this matter. I write my blog, do my podcast, but also write op ed pieces for my Guild's web site (here) and I am finding myself in a situation. I am not paid for the op eds on my guild's site, it is just one of the several creative outlets I have, but then again I am not paid for my blog or my podcast either. The last three times I have gone to write substantial posts on my blog, I have found them too long for my blog, and posted them as op ed pieces.

Now, I am wondering, is it tacky to post the Op Ed pieces to both my blog and my guild site? If not, how do you choose where to put it? I have a hunter, Druid, and Paladin, so 'keep on topic' is a little hard to do. Where do you post if oyu have many options? Should I start blogs for each of the classes I play instead of keeping it all on one?

My first question is what is an op ed?

Second, what makes you think something is too long? If you feel one of your pieces is too long, consider breaking it up into smaller chunks and release it gradually throughout the week.

Third, don't worry about tackiness. Your blog is you time. You can also write on your Guild site. You can write 1 piece for both venues, or write 2 for separate. Although doing twice the work is something that I've found rather silly. For the past several months, I wanted to increase my exposure. I wrote for my blog, copied that and pasted that in Curse blogs after some more edits and modifications. It all depends on what you want to do here.

Lastly, there is nothing wrong with having a multi-class blog. Even though I focus on my Priest, I do write about my Paladin and Shaman on occasion. Having more blogs means having more maintenance to do in the long run. If you can handle that, then by all means go for it. If not, I suggest consolidating it to one source.

Hope that helps =).

1) Op Ed = Opinion Editorial, sort of like the editorials in the papers
2) I generally have a rule of nothing more than 2 paragraphs before the jump, no more than 4 after. I guess it's pretty silly to have such a rule, but there it is.
3) yeah, I am just worried that one or the other source of exposure will lose hits due to saturation, you know what I mean?

I have to agree, the maintenance on 3 different blogs would be a pain, especially when I have a hard enough time keeping one relevant. I use Movable Type, so comment and trackback spam is not an issue, but the trouble would be more broad than that, and I would be far more likely to get bored and just drop all three. Thanks for the advice.

Nothing wrong with a long blog post as long as its interesting or informative. Just like Matticus said. Break it up into pieces or into parts. You can do series posts over time each having its own part. You write each part in section when you have time to write it.
