Well it finally happened.

Quote:
The bandwidth or page view limit for this site has been exceeded and the page cannot be viewed at this time. Once the site is below the limit, it will once again begin serving as normal.

pages.google.com has a bandwidth limit it turns out.
What's a recommended method of approach on this? wordpress is not an option as they don't allow javascript and other things. Self hosted, well, i'd prefer not to go there. Blogspot works fine, it's the image hosting part that's currently killing me.

So, externally hosting images. I was already doing that on pages.google.com. Only 1 MB in total. but it's hit a pretty obvious cap just now. Split the page to show images from an external account seems the most obvious choice. Host the CSS on a reliable host, put the images with something that allows unlimited bandwidth, choices choices.

Anyone have recommendations?

Yep, but i was trying to keep them "organized".
blogger doesn't really have any form of image interface, and if they're not linked to a post they will probably be deleted for being "floating" images.

I think i found what was eating up the majority of the bandwidth, removed that, so it should stabilize again soon.
Still, means i'm annoyingly close to capping.

Find a nice friend with hosting and bandwidth to spare and get an ftp account for their space :P

Actually you can Bbr. Any pictures that you upload through Blogger get put in a gallery at http://picasaweb.google.com that will probably be named after your blog.

I actually just stopped using Blogger's uploader and just upload all my images through the actual Picasa site and create my own links manually. Either way will work, but what matters is that you can go and organize, sort, delete whatever you need. :)

Hmm interesting.
Isn't that also restricted to some bandwidth or such, do the images last forever n all?

Quote:
Maximum 500 photos per album

16 MB Storage used
1008 MB Storage remaining

Nothing about bandwidth, but i suspect it'll have the same thing as pages.google.com
Hotlinking seems to be completely impossible even according to the picasa helpgroup.

Are you hoping to do this with all free services?

Hey Bbr,

Currently I'm using a free Photobucket account, but I'm moving all my pictures to Flickr.

While the free Photobucket was nice, I find I'm going through the 25GB of bandwidth with relative ease now. Flickr will give me a year+3 months of free time (so in short, 15 months) for $25. It's the best deal that I've been able to find.

My entire site is ran off of free solutions. I haven't run into the bandwidth problem yet with Picasa though. You probably just get more traffic than me.

Hotlinking isn't impossible, though I don't agree with it. You can hotlink in pre-defined sizes. For example, when you click on an image at my blog, it loads an 800px version in Lightbox. You can go to Picasa and view the full, original image but you can't hotlink to it.

You can also create more than one album if you want, like I did for my beta screenshots.

I'm not faulting you in any way, I was just wondering because I didn't want to list a bunch of paid alternatives if that was not what you were trying to accomplish.

Free is the way to go really. ;)

Just looked into www.imagefrog.net which is under new management.
Seems hotlinking is fine, and the site allows up to 100GB per month in bandwidth. That should keep me going on large images for a while, so I've got room for using the small images and css on googlepages still.
