Greeting all. I've recently become a fan of quite a few of the bloggers on this site and, well, it is becoming a bit hard to manage. What tools do you guys use to manage all the blogs you read?

I think I'd like to start a blog some day but first I'd like to read and post for a few months to get a feel for the community. Thanks for any advice.

I like google readeras it allows me to categorize my blogs in any way I see fit, and keeps all the posts of sites I'm interested in a single convenient location I can access from anywhere.

There are a number of similar sites/programs that allow you to follow a site's feed, it's just a matter of finding the one that works best for you :)

Thanks for the reply! I use Google Reader right now and its just one giant column of blog updates down the center of the screen. Any tips on how to better organize it? Like favorite blogs here, blogs I check occasionally there, work blogs in that corner, etc.

Please keep in mind that I am a slow witted man.

Well I keep mine separated to make it easy to update my blog-roll at the moment; however, I do have some tips that might help ya.

1) Make folders by category: WoW, News, General (or whatever categories you read)
2) Make folders by how often you read it: Frequent, Sometimes, Meh

When you set up the feed settings for a new or old feed, put them in a category folder, and a "how much I love thee" folder. This way, depending your mood, you can browse whichever way suits you best.

I'm sure other people organize differently, but basically, you want to make the information easy for you to enjoy for the way you read ^^

Thanks again. I like the idea of making a 'I like to read' folder - that cleaned up a lot of my issues. I also added the Reader Goodie called 'Next Bookmark' and that rocks. It lets me read the blog update on the blog itself (rather than just the RSS) but hit 'next' to go to the next blog page in my personal list. Pure awesome - I get to scroll through my reader but see all the nice art people put on their blogs :)

Thanks Windsoar!

Personally I just shove them all into one folder on my browser bookmarks:

It's getting quite big now :s

Im just using Google Reader - it works for me, and I can fairly quickly get an overview of who I need to read up on. As said above, folders go a long way to help you organise them. Then again, why are you subscribing to people you don't want to read from? :P

I subscribe to quite a lot of channels on Youtube, and eventually some of them has to go. I realise that I keep avoiding new updates from a specific uploader, and that I just delete the latest video of theirs in my feed. That means its probably time for me to just unsubscribe :P

I'll third google reader especially if you are a Chrome or iPhone user. I can get push notifications sent to my phone whenever there is a new blog on my reader and i downloaded Google Reader Checker extension for Chrome which does pretty much the same thing.

Aside from that the shortcuts built in with google reader are very handy :).

I realize I'm necro-ing yet another old post, but in the wake of the death of Google Reader, if you're looking for a solid RSS reader I'd recommend NewsBlur (http://www.newsblur.com/). I find it a little counter-intuitive at times and the free accounts have some limitations, but it's been more than enough for my purposes.

Feedly.com is quite good, and since Google Reader is going away soon, I've had to migrate.
I quite like Bloglovin.com - you can log in, search the name of the blog you want to follow, and if the blog isn't registered on there, you can search the full URL in the search bar and it will present the site to you. Whether they have signed up or not, you're still able to follow them through Bloglovin, and if they do join up and sign their site up, it won't change anything for you.
It's totally managable, and you can view any blog platform from it, like Wordpress or Blogger.
