I'm curious where you guys stand on commenting on old blog posts. I'm not talking weeks or months old because that's something I've only ever seen spammers do, but perhaps a few days or a week old, posts on which the last comment was made 4 days ago and there have been 3 or 4 new posts since.

Personally, if I'm a bit late reading a post (which I often am) but I enjoyed it and/or have something I'd like to say, I still leave a comment. I'm curious if some feel this is a faux pas?

Yep, I'm comment on whatever I run across despite age. Now, I may not REPLY to a comment on really old material in a timely fashion, but I usually do that as well.

I probably comment about half the time. If it's just an observation, I'll post it. If it's something I would want answered... I sometimes give up, because I figure the author/other commenters are less likely to come back to an old post. Sadly...

I love to comment on blog posts, and I love to see the author reply to the comment, if its worth replying. In the same fashion, I try to reply to most comments worth replying to

If somebody commented on one of my older blogposts, I'd see it on the dashboard and reply if I felt it needed one, whether it's an older post or not.

Depends on the post. I think there's no "statute of limitations" on commenting on a guide or reference post, something that is meant to be read again and again over the course of months. On more ephemeral stuff "look at my new sparklepony" I'll probably keep it to myself.

Somewhat related: I generally don't comment on old *Blogspot* posts, or any posts on blogs without the "subscribe to comments" options. Why? Because I can't keep the same page open for a week, waiting (in vain?) for the author to answer.

Subscribe to comments is your friend. Really.
(I don't know if it can be done on Blogspot too and it's just disabled by default.)

If a post is interesting to me, or provokes a response, I give it. A blog is not a chat room -- if the topics are still visible, it's still appropriate to respond there, IMO.

And I love when someone responds to an old post, like my Father's Day story. It feels good to know that something I worked on years ago might still speak to people.

Also with Blogger setups, you can use the Email Notification setting as an author to get an email of each comment you receive. I don't get that many comments so this works well for me, and I always see responses on older posts so I can respond to them as well.

IMO there's nothing wrong with commenting on old blog posts even if they are months old. It's always nice to hear back from people about your posts and they may not have been there when they were posted at first, that doesn't mean they can't say something now.

I do it as well, usually when I'm looking for something and it gives the answers I need. I do like it when the blog owner then replies when I might have a question about the subject of the article.

It happened before that I found something that didn't help at the time, but later I went back to read up on it again and I asked for a few more details, got a reply and it helped me ingame (an article on Bloodqueen, when I first saw it my guild wasn't at that level yet but when we got there I went back to check on it)

It depends on how you would like to article to affect people, some write about stuff that can change the week after like the recent Cataclysm announcements. and then you have articles about boss encounters etc, which depending on your current progress, can be useful in the future
