Posts on my blod get shortened to about the first paragraph, with a Read More link in the end. I like it that way because some posts might contain a lot of images and clog the main page.
However, I was starting off my posts with an italic description of the category they belonged to, and this italic formatting is gone in the shortened versions.

Any ideas on why this happens?

My guess would be that your theme is overriding your formatting. Can you provide the theme that you're using and I'll be happy to do some testing for you :)

Confirmed that your theme is the issue. I'll ask a friend to look and see if the CSS can be changed to fix this issue (I avoid that stuff myself ^^) I'll get back to you when I get a response either way :)

Ok, I'm going to link some of my conversation with the guy who helped me in order to not screw up exactly what he said. Apparently "fixing" this in a theme isn't entirely simple, but it can be done. I checked with your theme provider and they do not offer support for this theme, so that option is, unfortunately, not available.

First, you may want to read the information provided at this link: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Ref ... he_content. It discusses formatting when using the "more" function.

Quote:
yeah, its going to be in his index.php for the theme, and you can search for "the_excerpt(" and probably find the line that is responsible for it, but as far as actually fixing it, you'll have to do a custom pull from "the_content()"

This *should* fix the issue:
Quote:
the_content(the_title('<h3>Read more: ','&#8230;</h3>',false));

If/when you update your theme, you will lose this fix. Using a child theme would negate the need to fix it every update but since it's a simple insert, it's probably less work to just apply the fix instead of setting up a child theme.

Hope this helps!

Edit: My friend also offered to pull the index that he tested the fix on if you'd like to just upload a new index file. Let me know, and I'll get it sent if needed :)
